This is my first attempt at doing a more in-depth trip report complete with some maps, links, photos, and captions. This trip was one I had been wanting to do for a long time. I had never been in the Wind River Mountains before this trip and had it boiled down to either this Cirque De Towers hike or a journey farther north to Titcomb Basin. Ultimately the decision was made to explore the Big Sandy Lake area with a few different hikes planned. The button below will take you to the AllTrails trip map that we used as the basis and preplanning for our 5 day trip. If you like what you see, feel free to reach out and let me know if there are any questions you may have. Enjoy and thanks for taking the time to check it out!
Trip Total Hiking: 44.1 Miles

Day 1 - August 5th, 2020
Big Sandy Trailhead (Elev. 9100')
to
Big Sandy Lake (Elev. 9700')
9.1 Mile Day
Didn't take a lot of pictures this day, was just focused on getting to camp with our heavy packs. The parking lot was completely full on arrival at the trailhead, obviously a lot of people were going to be up there and we wanted to make sure we got some good spots to setup for the week. We loaded up and beat feet up the hill.

Day 2 - August 6th, 2020
Big Sandy Lake (Elev. 9700')
to
Jackass Pass (Elev. 10800')
to
Big Sandy Lake (Elev. 9700')
9.8 Mile Day
We got a good nights rest and woke up to a nice morning. Ate some chow and prepared for the hike up the mountain on Big Sandy Trail over to the Cirque De Towers. The kids and I didn't make it all the way, I didn't want to burn them out the 1st day. We turned around at about Arrowhead Lake deciding not to go up and over Jackass Pass. But I'll be back! It was fun seeing the climbers on WarBonnet peak, pretty good size climb!

Woke up feeling pretty good and in time to setup the camera and get some shots of the Sun starting to peek over Big Sandy Mountain. We would get the whole group together and hike up to Black Joe Lake for a day of fishing and relaxing. We loaded up the day packs and chairs and set out.

Day 4 - August 8th, 2020
Big Sandy Lake (Elev. 9700')
to
Clear Lake (Elev. 10,000')
to
Big Sandy Lake (Elev. 9700')
8.1 Mile Day
Greeted the day feeling a little sore but also getting accustomed to being in the Mountains. Decided today would be an easier day with just a trip up to Clear Lake to relax and enjoy the views. Billy Goat and Billy Goat Jr. would be doing the loop hike up to Temple/Deep Lakes and down to Clear Lake to meet up with us. They left camp earlier in the morning to allow us to meet at a decent time. I will include a few photos of their loop hike, courtesy of Billy Goat. This would be the last full day we have in the Winds before it's time to hike out.

Day 5 - August 9th, 2020
Big Sandy Lake (Elev. 9700')
to
Big Sandy Trailhead (Elev. 9100')
8.6 Mile Day
Last day in the Winds. Time to get up and hike back to the trailhead. Luckily it is mostly downhill back to the parking lot. Loaded the bags and beat feet down the hill. Didn't take many pictures this morning, we were set on getting out in a timely fashion, which we managed to do. We soaked our feet for few a minutes in the Big Sandy River (which felt amazing) then cruised out through the desert and made our way to the Farson Mercantile. Here we were met with a long line and truly amazing ice cream cones. If you're ever in the area, I would highly recommend stopping here. From there we split ways and drove the few hours back home and to civilization again. It really was a great trip with good friends and great views. I can't wait to go back.
